The client a Japanese expat in the catering & garment export business evolved the idea of an exclusive home style Japanese restaurant for the community in the region. The central idea was to create a Japanese home ambience, with an intimate experience, inviting a large community living in the city with a specialized Japanese kitchen & Sake bar.
The design was inspired by Japanese homes & aesthetics using earthy colour tones & integration of natural elements. Seating layouts area combination of table chair cubicles & traditional zashiki pods. Indirect lighting in the seating area and suspended traditional paper lamps in the pods create a warm ambience. The finishing materials including tatami floor matting sourced directly from Japan were planned & detailed in advance to integrate at execution. The walls are accessorized with framed handmade art with seasonal flower paintings and calligraphy. Natural cut logs have been used for step levels making for a close to nature & home garden like experience.
